History:
Collection Robert de Montesquiou-Fézensac, Versailles. Galerie Elstir, Paris.
The initials RM indicate the photographic print would have been painted by the Count Robert de Montesquiou, who had bought most of the photographs of the Countess Castiglione at the auction of 1901 after her passing. A painter and illustrator himself, the count recreated the greenhouse decor and the flowered border of the original painting by Aquilin Schad. The national museum of Château de Compiègne owns a smaller version of the same gouache (16 x 12,5cm).
